Electronic Arts has announced that they are currently developing a Lord of the Rings RPG for iOS and Android called The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth.

EA has announced a new app described as a “collectible role-playing game” that will offer a “strategic and socially competitive experience,” according to a press release. While a release date for the mobile game hasn’t been announced, the beta will launch sometime this summer.

While “deep harvesting systems” are part of the game, The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth features “immersive storytelling, turn-based combat… and an extensive roster of characters” not just from the Lord of the Rings series. of the Rings. but also from The Hobbit. The game also suggests that players will be able to fight through iconic stories from Tolkien’s world, as well as fight against the enemies of Middle-earth. The game will also feature high-fidelity graphics, cinematics and art style for a fully immersive experience.

The development studio is run by EA’s mobile team Capital Games, which has worked on AAA mobile titles like Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes. While this isn’t the first LOTR title to come under the partnership between EA and Middle-earth Enterprises, it seems that EA’s direction is to corner the mobile market and live services. EA isn’t the only gaming company to recently branch out into more mobile-focused games, with Blizzard recently announcing its own World of Warcraft-themed tower defense Arclight Rumble and the upcoming mobile-focused Diablo title. : Immortal now adding a PC version for platforms

However, with the next Lord of the Rings series prequel in the works at Amazon, it’s a wonder if we’ll get another Lord of the Rings title for consoles and PC at some point, one for current graphics.

There’s the action-adventure title The Lord of the Rings: Gollum which will be released sometime this year and is being developed by Daedlic Entertainment, but it has a more narrative approach with stealth mechanics that follow the events of Gollum defending his valued. Amazon was working on a Lord of the Rings MMORPG, but it was canceled last year. Maybe we’ll get a new LOTR RPG at some point with magical AAAs like Hogwarts Legacy and Forspoken just around the corner?
