The recent release of Apex Legends Mobile has brought with it many new features. With new game modes, new in-game currencies, and a new Battle Pass, it can be easy to miss the star of the debut season of Apex Legends Mobile: Fade, the newest legend to jump on the ship.
Fade is only playable on Apex Mobile, but that’s not the only thing that makes it stand out from the crowd. In addition to being the first legend to appear outside of the console/PC version of the game, he is also the first legend to debut with virtually no introduction. His silhouette briefly appeared in the launch trailer, but other than that, players haven’t gotten a good look at him until now.
Unlike the other playable characters in Apex, Fade is the only Legend to debut without appearing in a launch trailer, a Stories from the Outlands episode, or an introductory abilities trailer. He doesn’t even have a bio on EA’s official Apex Legends website. So who exactly is this guy? You get a very short biography in the game, but figuring out the mystery behind Fade’s story is up to the players themselves.

Born in Solace, 26-year-old Fade, whose real name is Ignacio Huamani, is the son of two high-tech curio hunters. His parents appear to have operated as Loba’s family, as his income came from reselling high value artifacts found in the Outlands. Solace is one of the last planets the IMC was removed from after the Border War, so to this day it’s packed with interesting archaeological finds (as discovered by Loba herself in the Season 5 trailer).
Ignacio’s family eventually tracked down the location of a mysterious bunker, which housed a “simulacrum suit” with powerful Phase technology. Moments after Ignacio tried on the suit for the first time, the mercenaries stormed the bunker and attacked the family. Fade managed to survive by getting to safety, but his parents weren’t so lucky. He joined the games seeking revenge for the murder of his family.
It’s hard to ignore the visual similarities between Fade’s simulacrum suit and Revenant’s red, skeletal appearance. They also have similar personalities, each of them openly rude and frustrated with his very existence. Fade fears the powerful Phase technology generated by his suit and “feels like a prisoner” in it, according to his biography. Revenant also resents his lot in life (well, death), feeling trapped in a simulacrum suit that he can never get out of. Given the fact that there was a giant simulacrum factory hidden under Skull Town before Loba blew it up, it’s not too hard to imagine that Fade and Revenant may be connected in some way. Wraith also escaped from a secret underground laboratory in Solace, where he obtained his Phasing abilities. As Respawn has confirmed that Apex Legends Mobile lore it is indeed canonFade’s presence at the Games is sure to pique the interest of Ash, Revenant, and Wraith.

But by far the most unique thing about Fade is its story. His biography gives the general gist, but there seems to be a lot more to discover, and it’s up to the players to do the legwork. Participating in the Unleash Punishment quest allows players to unlock Fade’s six-part backstory. The Fade himself can be unlocked for free with 10 Fade Pieces, a collectible currency exclusive to this season. Unleash Pieces can be found in the battle pass, but players who are interested in the story better get going: the Unleash Punishment event will only be available until May 27.
