Court proceedings in the libel trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard will be on hiatus this week. Judge Penney Azcarate attends a conference and informed both parties and the jury of the recess at the beginning of the trial.

Heard is being sued by Depp for $50 million for implying that he abused her in 2018 Washington Post opinion article. Although she did not name him, he claims that her accusations affected her ability to work for her.

At the end of last week, both parties issued statements of confidence on how the proceedings are going.

Heard will continue to give testimony on May 16. She has already spoken at length about her troubled relationship with Depp and detailed alleged physical fights. The court heard a harrowing account of an alleged sexual assault against Heard during a brutal and bloody altercation in Australia in 2015.

He previously described an “unusual and remarkable” first meeting with Depp and a blossoming relationship as he fell “madly” in love. However, her testimony took a darker turn as she recalled the first time she allegedly hit her, her jealousy, and her drug and alcohol use.
