Amber Heard released a statement ahead of her cross-examination in the ongoing libel trial against her in Virginia.
After a ten-day hiatus, Johnny Depp’s trial against Heard resumed on Monday. Before taking the stand, the “Aquaman” star shared a statement about his expectations for cross-examination with Depp’s lawyers in court.
“There’s an old saying of trial lawyers: when the facts are on your side, argue the facts; when the facts are not on your side, bang on the podium. Today, we expect Depp’s lawyers to pound the victim,” he said. Heard in a statement issued through his spokesperson and obtained by People.
“We fear it is both shameful and desperate,” the statement continued. “And the overwhelming evidence, really, is not on Depp’s side. The one thing we suspect Depp’s lawyers will avoid is the central issue of this trial: Does Amber or any woman have the right to free speech of the First Amendment?”
The “London Fields” star was questioned by lawyer Camille Vasquez, one of Depp’s lawyers. Vasquez submitted a series of photos of Heard after the alleged violent fight where she appeared to have no bruises or other physical marks, reported Variety.
Heard insisted she hid the marks, including what she thought was a broken nose, with makeup.
“You should see what she looked like under the makeup,” Heard said.
Meanwhile, Twitter users immediately reacted to Heard’s statement after seeing the cross-examination. According to them, Vasquez did a great job exposing Heard.
“Camille Vasquez destroyed her entire testimony today. Give her all the flowers,” one said. commented.
“Hahahahaha, that’s fine of course. I didn’t know that Camille would catch her lying multiple times,” another aggregate.
“Somebody go tell your spokesperson that this statement hasn’t aged well, but the truth is, in fact, siding with Mr. Depp because Amber has lied several times under oath,” a third person said. tweeted.
“#AmberHeard under questioning is truly shocking. People who don’t have the truth on their side falter when called to testify. They literally don’t have the receipts to support the lie. [The] the truth always [come] out”, a room aggregate.
Despite the backlash, Heard’s supporters remain steadfast in her belief that she was telling the truth.
“Proud to support a confident, honest, dignified and driven woman [the] strength and bravery as Amber Heard for 6 years”, one wrote. “She always stands up for what is right and she can look back knowing she was always on the right side of the truth.”
“I am in awe of this woman’s beauty, power and courage. She may also have never looked so beautiful! Her strength to tell her past to the world is undeniable. To fight all enemies and bull$hit and walk through fire… #IStandWithAmberHeard forever! Love her!” another supporter wrote.
“I can’t take this doctor seriously, honestly. Amber is right, he doesn’t say anything important in that report. Depp pays him anyway because he wouldn’t line up with Amber’s story. #IStandWithAmberHeard,” a third user aggregate.
“I love her” another follower wrote while sharing a photo of Heard.
Depp released a statement following Heard’s testimony. According to the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star, the actress “delivers[ed] ‘the performance of his life,'” as expected.
“While Ms. Heard’s stories have continued to generate new and convenient details, Mr. Depp’s memories have remained exactly the same throughout the six painful years since his first accusations were made. His truth, the truth , it’s the same no matter what environment it’s in. it’s been presented,” Depp’s team said.
Depp’s lawyer also warned that the cross-examination “will be very revealing” and will “certainly highlight the many fallacies” that Heard allegedly tried to pass off as “fact throughout her convoluted testimony.”
