Today’s ‘Word’ #331 Clue and Answer: Monday May 16 Solution

It’s hard to believe that May is already halfway there. The school year is about to end. My kids are finishing their 6th and 9th grades in just a couple of weeks and then they are off to summer vacation. Sunny days, warm nights and lots of freedom.

Wordle, the popular word puzzle game created by Josh Wardle during the pandemic as a gift for his significant other, continues to be an incredibly popular diversion for people during these dark times of war, civil strife, and rapid inflation.

Today’s word of the day is a pretty good one, maybe a little more complicated than your average Wordle, but it’s also a great and evocative word that, for me at least, evokes a sense of adventure.

So, without further ado. . . .

Today’s Word #331 Clue and Answer

Expect! To hold! Keep your horses there, friend! Don’t you know there are spoilers ahead?

Ok, now that you’ve been warned, go for it!

Here’s your clue: you do this in a dungeon or deep in some monstrous cavern.

And the answer is . . .

I think my first guess actually fits perfectly with the final word. If you have any hope of delving into a skeleton-infested dungeon or the depths of a dragon’s cavern, you’ll probably want to carry a torch. The flame will light your way.

On the other hand, I only got two letters and one was in yellow. Guesses 2 and 3 were worse. Heist removed some letters but didn’t make the ‘L’ green. Complaint removed many more common letters and words like shelf either coverage Etc.

I wasn’t even sure the game would accept candy which isn’t an English word at all, but it did (although I’m sure it’s not an answer). After racking my brain for more possibilities, I quickly settled on delve after this for victory.

As far as Wordle Bot is concerned, my first guess was a ‘strong choice’ which normally narrows the possible results down to 147, but this time it narrowed things down to just 50. My second guess narrowed the possibilities down to just seven words, though Wordle Bot recommends build finished heist.

My third guess won a ‘Great job!’ of Wordle Bot, as he had now narrowed things down to a single possible answer (although feudal It would have been better since it would have given me more information about the ‘L’).

Wordle Bot gave me a big ZERO for my next guess, although, ironically, it’s also perhaps the biggest compliment he’s given me so far, effusively: “Sweet? Awesome vocabulary! There was only one possible solution left, and it wasn’t this. (Sweet is a valid assumption, but it’s not one of Wordle’s 2309 solutions; sorry, I didn’t make the rules.)”

Right, right, but of course I don’t look at the possible answers before I guess, Wordle Bot. In any case, there was still only one possible solution at this point and I got it. Yay me!
