Watch the first trailer for ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ and explore the exotic Pandora Reef

Following the screening during the “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” pre-movie trailers over the weekend, the official sneak peek of director James Cameron’s “Avatar: The Way of Water” has now been released online, and it’s an awesome dive back into the wondrous realm of Pandora.

This long-awaited follow-up to the 2009 mega-hit “Avatar” hits theaters December 16 and is the first of four planned sequels to unfold every two years: December 20, 2024; December 18, 2026; and December 22, 2028. If you can’t wait that long, here’s a look at the impressive spaceships and vehicles from the first Avatar movie.

The sequel “Avatar: The Way of Water” returns to the exotic planet, whose mineral resources and native Na’vi inhabitants are being exploited by a ruthless conglomerate, and where Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) are raising a family. in the aquatic reef area of ​​the remote alien world.

This $250 million sci-fi extravaganza is set more than a decade after the turbulent events seen in the first film. “Avatar: The Way of Water” chronicles the legacy of the Sully family and the inevitable dangers that lurk nearby as they struggle to maintain their safety amid tragedies and triumphs as the human invaders return.

The mostly silent trailer offers images akin to Pandora’s Eden and all its exotic flora and fauna, with a group of tall Na’vi frolicking along the coastal region of the Metkayina continent. Neytiri watches from afar as a group of Na’vi straddle the backs of Pandoran banshees soaring above an aquamarine ocean, past coral-like rock formations dotted with lanky, blue-skinned aliens.

The images shift to shots of an industrial complex packed with new machinery and advanced aircraft before moving on to magnificent underwater sequences that reveal Pandora’s serene aquatic environment teeming with sea creatures and strange, swaying plant life. From there, the clip cuts to a harrowing scene of Jake and Neytiri trapped in a submerged boat that is flooding and a lyrical moment of Jake astride a majestic hybrid animal that is equally at home under the ocean and in the sky. .

“I know one thing,” Jake declares in the only spoken words of the preview. “Wherever we go, this family is our strength.”
